I stud­ied Amer­i­can his­tory in high school and I wish I’d paid more atten­tion, although I doubt had I done so I would be any smarter about this today.

I’m not some his­to­rian of elec­tion “irreg­u­lar­i­ties” or any­thing, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but…

My ques­tion:

Did this stuff hap­pen dur­ing Jefferson’s, Adams’s, and Madison’s pres­i­den­cies?  If so, why are we still com­plain­ing about them?
