I was looking at something and one of those annoying ads was floating around above what I was looking at and I finally caved and looked at the ad.  It was an ad for BONIVA.

It carried the following  Important Safety Information:

You should not take BONIVA if you have low blood calcium, cannot sit or stand for at least 60 minutes, have severe kidney disease, or are allergic to BONIVA.

I thought  That’s pretty stupid. How would you know if you were allergic to it unless you took it, and if you took it and had an allergic reaction you wouldn’t be very likely to take it again.  So you don’t really need somebody telling you not to.

That’s what I was originally going to do this post about and add some funny stuff about those wacky product warnings, etc.  Then it hit me!  This ad is brilliant!

Let’s say you take the stuff and do have an allergic reaction to it that makes you really sick or kills you, like somebody with an allergy to a bee sting.  The lawyers can just say,

Well — he was allergic to it.  We TOLD him not to take it.
