Facts Arrived At Politically Can Drown You

15 November 2009

While I was sitting in a rented house in Shreveport, LA I heard an NPR broadcast that blew me away.

Because earlier I was sitting in a Motel 6 in Boissier City, LA, watching CNN as the announcer said that Hurricane Katrina had jogged to the east at the last moment and wouldn’t hit New Orleans after all.  Then, in a “I’m-going-to-change-your-life moment he held his hand to his ear, paused,  and then said that the levees were collapsing.

The NPR broadcast said that some people in a New Orleans neighborhood, Bucktown, had complained that water was coming up in their front yards and they blamed it on the water and sewer company.  The sewer and water people said it wasn’t them and had a study done which concluded that the water was coming from the 17th Street Canal.  Under the levee.

That is bad.  Very bad.  When water travels it takes stuff with it (for an example see the Grand Canyon).  So this water going under the levee was taking with it the very stuff which was holding the levee in place.

About the same time a partier down in New Orleans French Quarter got belligerent with the bouncers at a bar there and one of them put him in a choke hold which ended up killing him.

That would have been it but he was black.

So the buzz was out and Al, Jesse, and the NAACP responded immediately.

Presented with the two events, that the levee protecting New Orleans was in jeopardy and that a belligerent, intoxicated partier was inadvertently killed by a bouncer, you will probably be able to pass this simple test:

  1. a commission was formed to investigate the soundness of New Orleans’ levees, or
  2. a commission was formed to investigate whether or not black people were being over-charged for drinks in the French Quarter.

Those of you who have never heard of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or the NAACP are excused from this test.  Those of you who used to have houses in New Orleans already know the answer.

You who think that the government can make medical or any other kind of decisions free of political consideration — forewarned is forearmed.

Rooting It Out

15 November 2009

Wherever there is corruption the media will follow it and when they find it they will ruthlessly expose it.  Daily.  Especially when it involves us or one of our allies.

Hamid Karzai.  Hamid Karzai.  Hamid Karzai.

Abu Ghraib. Abu Ghraib. Abu Ghraib.

This is why it took two kids working on spec to publicize what ACORN was up to.

And why every day we read and see reports covering every penny that was given by us to Arafat, the PLO, the Palestinian Authority, and Hamas.
